The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the United States against five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted individuals who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported France in criticizing the move.
The restrictions were enacted on Tuesday against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s digital governance law, along with four anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
